THERE was a shock result at Meadow Lane where Westbury, with Mike Coll and Marc Scammell outstanding in defence, kept their second clean sheet of the season to see off promotion-chasing Oldland.

Recent weeks have seen performances improve and finally results are showing this progress both defensively and in attack, where Dan Moore and Shav Allen continued their scoring form by both notching their sixth goals of the season.

A forgettable first half saw hardly any action of note as possession was frequently wasted by both sides as well as the respective defences cancelling out their opponents.

The lack of cohesion before the break was quickly erased from the memory when United scored soon after the restart when Moore played in Allen who showed good composure to finish confidently on 47 minutes.

This seemed to spur the hosts into life and they created several quick chances with visiting keeper Ben Reed making fine saves from Josh Ferguson who had run from the halfway line, Tony McElhone in a one-on-one situation and Moore who tried a 20-yard chip.

Oldland began to threaten in the final 20 minutes and nearly equalised through Jack Parker who brought a fine save out of Ben Forester with a close range volley.

They surprisingly chose to twice treat defender Jordan Greenwood’s head injury rather than make a substitution, leaving them with 10 men for over five minutes.

During this time Lewis Parker got on the end of a good move and fired narrowly over from long range.

Reed saved well again when Moore set up Zayn Alime but spoiled his performance with an awful error that gifted Moore an open goal to make it 2-0 on 82 minutes as United, with Coll to the fore at the back, kept the Abbots at bay.
