SALE Sharks have signed England hooker Rob Webber from their Aviva Premiership rivals Bath.

SALE announced a two-year deal for Webber, who will leave Bath at the end of this season.

The 29-year-old has won 16 caps and was part of England's 2015 World Cup squad, although he did not make England's elite player group announced last month by new head coach Eddie Jones.

"Rob fits perfectly into what we are trying to create at the club," Sale rugby director Steve Diamond said.

"He is a talented all-round player who is great at the set-piece and very mobile in the loose.

"He is at the top of his game and will bring with him a wealth of experience."

Webber, who made more than 100 appearances for Wasps before joining Bath in 2012, added: "I am really looking forward to the new challenge ahead.

"I have spoken to Steve Diamond and the lads I know at the club, and they have all spoken highly about the environment at Sharks."

Webber added: “I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my time with Bath and I have learnt a lot being a part of this club. I have made some great friends along the way and I’d like to wish them all the best in the years to come both on and off the pitch.

"I'd also like to thank the coaches and support staff for all their efforts. It goes without saying that for the rest of my time here I’ll be 100 per cent focused on making sure we finish the season the way we want to, and rewarding the superb Bath supporters."

Bath head coach Mike Ford added: "Rob has been a great servant for Bath in his time here and it was a tough decision.

“He’s an experienced and talented player, who I’m sure will be a strong asset for Sale. I’d like to thank him for all the hard work he’s put in, and wish him all the best for the future.”
