WILTSHIRE swim star Stephanie Millward says that her confidence is shining brighter than ever as she continues to fine-tune her technique ahead of her campaign to clinch Paralympic gold.

In October last year, Millward, who clinched four silvers and a bronze at London 2012, bade farewell to her home in Box as she shifted her training base to the north west and the 34-year-old is now living a stone’s throw away from British Para-Swimming’s National Performance Centre.

Millward, who is working under the British authority’s head coach Rob Greenwood at the Manchester Aquatics Centre, is desperate to give a Paralympic gold medal pride of place in her already-glistening trophy cabinet and thinks that her new surroundings can only benefit her chances of rocking in Rio this summer.

“If you want to win gold medals, you have to train with gold medal swimmers and with gold medal coaches,” said Millward, who clinched gold medals in the S9 100m backstroke and 100m freestyle at last weekend’s Croatia Open meet in Split.

“It was my decision to make the change and it’s been fantastic so far. When I was training in Bath, there were a lot of other things that could get in the way and I had to give myself the best chance of getting that gold medal.

“I’m living in a British Swimming flat and we’re just one street away from the pool.

“You pay £40-a-month and there’s a chef that will cook for you Monday-to-Friday. It’s great if you’re trying to lose weight. It’s easy-peasy.

“I’m loving it so far and I feel like my road to Rio is on track.”

Millward, who will look to book her spot in Brazil at the British Para-Swimming International Meet in Glasgow in April, has also been selected by Great Britain for the IPC European Championships in Madeira, Portugal, that same month.

Before her double victory in Croatia, the Wiltshire swimmer spent two weeks at a training camp in Phuket, Thailand, alongside a host of other Manchester-based swimmers.
