TEENAGE referee Megan Fear picked up a top award as the Trowbridge & District League held its annual presentation evening and annual meeting at Trowbridge's Wesley Road club.

The 19-year-old Megan Fear took the Eddie Meaden award, presented annually to the best upcoming new or young referee.

Fear, who lives in Warminster and has just gained her Level Five Referee promotion, is currently completing a Level Three sports-based apprenticeship, teaching PE in primary schools across Wiltshire.

Westbury-based referee Neil Taylor picked up the award in memory of former league referee John McMackin, who passed away in May 2013 at the age of 58, having settled in Westbury after moving over from Ireland in the early 1990s.

Adam McMackin, who followed in the footsteps of his late father, presented the award to 42-year-old Taylor, who before taking up refereeing played for and managed teams in the league.

Warminster Town Reserves' Mark Brefitt, in his first season as club secretary, made it a memorable one both on and off the pitch.

Brefitt, who was a player with the Warminster first team until a serious injury curtailed his career, also led his team to the runners up spot in Division One.

It was a case of deja-vu as for an eighth time in nine years and a fifth season on the bounce Roy Wenham, secretary of Calne Eagles, claimed the club correspondent award.

Wenham received a trophy and a cheque for £30 for his match reporting efforts over the season.

Westbury Town proved that fair play and good football can go hand in hand.

Jason & Simon Edwards' Division Two-winning side were also rewarded for their fair play efforts as they picked up the Dudley Cradock Sportsmanship Award with an average mark of 90.32.

With the overall winners cup they received a cheque for £100 as did Freshford United who topped Division One.

Freshford United claimed the Club Linesman of the Season award with an average of 80.40.

Eight new sides will join the league for the 2016/17 campaign which will kick-off on September 3 with 26 sides competing for the honours across the two divisions.

Division One newcomers will be Stockton & Codford, current Wiltshire Junior Cup winners while Division Two welcomes another seven new teams in Bradford Town Youth, Chippenham United, Melksham Town B, Three Daggers, Trowbridge Town A, Trowbridge Wanderers Development and Warminster Town A.
