Chippenham were given a good work out in their opening pre-season friendly at Toolstation League new boiys Malmesbury Victoria on Saturday, winnning 4-0.

Mark Collier was able to give a run out to 20 members of his first-team squad with most given a 45-minute run out.

For all that Malmesbury were the first to show when left back Ewen Kenny's sixth-minute free kick was held by Kent Kauppinen.

Just before the quarter hour mark Conor McCormack crossed to Alan Griffin but his downward header was saved by Josh Langley.

The home keeper again thwarted Griffin when he held on to a shot from the former Vics boss following a cross from Ryan Campbell.

The Bluebirds took the lead on 32 minutes when Andy Sandell held off two defenders before crossing to Matt Smith to fire home.

Before the break Nuno Felix shot over and Matt Jones's shot appeared to be stopped by a defender's hand but appeals for a penalty were ignored.

Three minutes after the interval Ben Whitehead doubled the advantage with a low shot from the edge of the area.

New signing Miles John then saw his effort cannon off a post.

The Bluebirds hit their third on 61 minutes when Whitehead threaded the ball to James Guthrie and his cross took out Langley allowing Alex Ferguson to find the net.

Further efforts fell to Ferguson, John and Whitehead whilst David Pratt's shot was blocked by Langley and Whitehead blazed the rebound over.

Leigh Henry and John both failed with further efforts before Pratt hit Chippenham's fourth when his strong run from 40 yards out saw him slip the ball past Langley.

In stoppage time Kenny's deflected shot was held by Kauppinen.
