CHIPPENHAM Town boss Mark Collier allowed himself a rare moment to wax lyrical over his side's performance as they comprehensively put National League South side Poole Town to the sword in FA Cup second round qualifying yesterday.

A hat-trick from Andy Sandell and Dave Pratt's strike destroyed the Dolphins in emphatic style as the Bluebirds bounced back from Tuesday's first defeat of the season at the hands of Banbury United.

The victory was another high point in what has started as a sensational season so far for Collier's men and, as well as the financial boost - Town earned £4,500 as a result of this win - the manager was delighted with his side's response to their midweek setback.

"We beat a team who are 20-odd places above us and I don't normally go overboard, but to score four goals was particularly good,'' said Collier.

"Our all-round game was good. We lost in midweek but it didn't really affect us.

"I said to the players to be disappointed about the result (against Banbury) but not the performance.

"People kept saying it would be a difficult game against Poole, but I said it would also be a difficult game for them because we have been playing very well and are a tight and compact side.''

"There is obviously the financial side which the chairman is chuffed about but so are the players because we've gone and beaten one of the big sides at this stage of the competition.''

Chippenham will now go into Monday's third round qualifying draw but Collier added: "We shouldn't fear anybody. The front two (Sandell and Pratt) were certainly a threat to their (Poole's) back four. We're in good shape at the moment.''
