MELKSHAM Town A hosted a Westbury Town outfit who beat them to the Division Two winners' crown last term.

Leading 3-0 at the break Melksham were on course to maintain their perfect start to the new season in Division One of the Trowbridge Windows-sponsored League, that saw all matches in the league observe a minute silence prior to kick-off in memory of Calne Eagles player Ned Edney, who sadly passed away at the age of 21 last Tuesday.

However a superb second-half showing from Westbury saw them battle back to claim a 3-3 draw.

Melksham bossed the first half and opened the scoring through Danny Harrison’s free kick.

A second from Harrison, this time a chipped effort, saw the lead doubled and when Tom Mack fired home number three it looked as if the points were already in the bag.

Westbury dominated the second half and started their revival courtesy of Jamie Parlour. Mark Maguire cut the deficit to one and when Ashley Easton sent a 30-yard effort crashing into the net the unlikely comeback was complete.

Freshford United may have suffered an opening day loss against champions Luxol St Andrews, but Chris Birleson’s side rediscovered the winning habit with a 10-0 win against Heytesbury.

Mike Little broke the deadlock on 19 minutes, and further goals from Theo Sing, Dave Percival, a second from Little and Dean Ranger gave them a 5-0 interval lead.

The second half saw them bag another five goals. Percival added his second not long after the restart and Waleed Bakali made it 7-0 before Percival completed his hat-trick for 8-0.

Both Nick Ross and Dean Ranger added to their first half efforts to complete the 10.

Stockton & Codford’s trip to Little Marsh saw them chalk up their second win of the season. However a battling Semington Magpies side stayed with their guests for 85 minutes before they conceded a late goal to suffer a 1-0 loss.

Stockton were unlucky in front of goal as they were denied by the woodwork on five occasions before Jayson Stokes collected a long ball from keeper Tom Lucas to slot home the late winner.

After going very close in their opening two games it was third time lucky for Trowbridge Town Reserves who took their first maximum points haul of the season thanks to a 4-2 victory over Potterne.

Dean Mathieson playing his first game of the season, fired home an 18 yard half volley to give the Bees an early lead.

Gavin Francis lashed home a free kick in the 20th minutes for 2-0 and his second a toe poke under the keeper made it 3-0 on 35 minutes.

Steven House gave Potterne a lifeline when he found the target in first half stoppage time.

Trowbridge may have spent most of the second half defending, but against the run of play the added their fourth and it was Francis who did the damage once more, when he side-footed home in the 60th minute.

Wayne House did scored a second for Potterne, however his 75th-minute effort was little more than a consolation.

Hilperton United are top of the table thanks to a 7-2 victory at Westbury United Reserves who, since beating Trowbridge Town Reserves on the opening day, have found things tough.

Hilperton led 3-0 after 45 minutes with all the goals coming from Reuben Spong.

Owen Adams pulled a goal back for Westbury early into second half before Hilperton struck a further four goals.

Spong added a fourth to his first-half treble, Steve Ball helped himself to a couple and James Clifford’s single made up the seven. Nick Taylor scored a late second for Westbury.
