WEST Wilts Ladies opened their win account for the season by seeing off Wimborne Wayfarers 3-0 in their West Clubs League East Division clash at Kingdown School on Saturday.

The hosts were on the front foot from the pushback, Hannah Cornish working her way past a Wimbourne player, to Jess McLean, who zig-zagged into the D and gained a penalty corner.

The subsequent shot from Livvie Evans found a Wimborne foot and earned a penalty stroke, which Cornish dispatched to give her side the lead.

Continuing her side’s control, Lizzie Robson combined with Hetty Thomson before her cross found Evans, whose shot was saved, only for Rosie Vallis to pounce on the rebound and double the lead.

After the break, Evans concluded the scoring, having earlier had a penalty corner conversion disallowed.

WEST Wilts men’s first team bounced back from their 6-0 opening-day defeat at the hands of Penarth with a 5-3 success at Yate.

The Wilts midfield asserted their dominance from the starting whistle and man of the match Dave King got the first goal by netting at the end of a fine passage of play.

Shortly after, a couple of short corners brought the second goal, finished precisely by Patrick Ost.

The second half started in much the same way but Yate pounced twice to narrow the gap, King bagging his second for the visitors.

After Adam Bard needed treatment for a cut, Nick Lemon netted a rebound for the fourth and King completed his hat-trick before another late Yate effort.
