FROME Town manager Josh Jeffries was chuffed to see new assistant Dan Cleverly lead by example and notch a dramatic late winner against Cinderford Town on Wednesday night.

With regular boss Nick Bunyard still suspended as the result of an FA investigation into betting activity, Jeffries has occupied the Badgers Hill hotseat this term but was forced into another reshuffle this week as assistant Matt Bown left the club.

Midfielder and captain Cleverley has stepped up to join Jeffries’ management team and glanced home a header to hand his team a 3-2 victory over bottom-of-the-table Cinderford on Wednesday, adding to George Miller and substitute Aiden Kirby’s earlier goals.

“Dan is my longest friend in football and he’s usually been the captain wherever he’s been, so he’s a good choice to step up,” said the Robins chief.

“I saw a stat that we had something like 25 shots against Cinderford but the most you can ever get is three points.

“They scored two goals and we pretty much gave them to them but we’re glad that we got the win in the end because we’ve been disappointed with a few of our results recently.

“We’ve had a lot of injuries and suspensions to deal with but this was an important three points.”

On Saturday, Frome came out on the other end of a last-gasp goal as they were denied victory at St Ives Town.

Late in the first period, Connor Roberts tapped home after the Saints failed to clear a corner kick but in the 90th minute, St Ives defender Charlie De’Ath fired home the equaliser after Scott Sinclair’s free-kick had struck the Frome bar.

Mitchell Page, Kris Miller, Sam Teale, Mike Bryant and Jordan Walker are all injury doubts for the Robins’ home clash with fifth-placed Hitchin Town this weekend.
