WARMINSTER hit the top of the Dorset & Wilts One North table on points difference as they dispatched Chippenham 2nd in clinical fashion.

Led by loosehead prop Matt Dunford for the first time, the amber and blues overcame a sluggish start before making their superiority show, scoring with their first attack of note as James Pinnell reached through tackles to dot down.

Centre Rusiate Waka followed with the second try soon after, Haydn Tryhorn landing the conversion as he stepped up to the first team for the first time this season.

Pinnell added another in similar fashion before Sikeli Rokovunicagi got on the scoresheet after some nifty footwork bamboozled the defence.

Tryhorn converted both tries and before the half was out the visitors had added a further three unconverted tries through flanker Isoa Vuligirua, number eight Laisiasa Vinakadina and Pinnell, for his hat trick.

Chippenham enjoyed a spell of pressure at the start of the second period but an eighth Warminster try followed through replacement flanker James Payne who burst under the posts, Tryhorn converting.

Replacement Tom Evans followed him on to the scoresheet, burning off the defence after a run from his own 10 metre line and Pinnell added a fourth before hooker Dan Woods also touched down.

Chippenham then managed their solitary score, but Pinnell rounded off the try fest with his 18th of the season so far.

Corsham made it nine wins from nine - but lost their top spot due to Warminster's points bonanza.

The Lacock Road side secured a seventh try bonus point of the season to date in the 29-12 triumph over neighbours Melksham, setting the scene for a titanic struggle a week on Saturday when they travel to face Warminster at Folly Lane.

Hamish Milner, Ryan Jones, Robbie Robinson, Alex Twigg and Ben Russell crossed for tries for the home side, while two conversions from Dan Goldsworthy made up the balance of points.

The home team rallied for Adam Davies to score from a powerful run crashing through the defence, Callum Hurn adding the extras in the first half.

The second period followed a similar pattern, Jonny Mills going in out wide for Melksham's second as their six-match winning streak was brought to an end.

Head coach Tim Draper said: "The bonus point win was gained with some great running rugby, but we need to become more clinical in attack to take full advantage of the possession we are securing.

"That will be important as the next league game against Warminster is a top of the table clash and they are also unbeaten so far this season.''

Bradford on Avon head coach Dave George admitted his side had been complacent as they slumped to a surprise 7-5 loss at lowly Frome 2nd.

The visitors had taken the lead with a try from full-back Tom Bartlett, but Frome responded with a converted score and held on, although George was unhappy with the conclusion to the contest, which ended with 12 minutes to go when Bradford flanker Sam Awdry suffered a neck injury.

"Our physio didn't want to move Sam so we were ready to use an adjacent pitch but there were a few discussions and by that time the light had gone,'' said George.

"We didn't play that last 12 minutes, but I don't know if it would have made a difference. We were complacent and they (Frome) seemed to want it more. We also put chance after chance down.

"I didn't really know what to say about it afterwards, Our first concern was for Sam, but our physio did a brilliant job and it was a muscular injury rather than anything else.''
