GRAHAM Shadwell, a winner in 2005 and 2013, is still on course for a hat-trick of national champion of champion men’s titles.

The England international and Clarrie Dunbar star has reached the Area 16 final in this season’s competition.

On Sunday, he bids to become the first Clarrie player to reach the final stages of a national indoor championship or competition this season.

Shadwell meets former England colleague John Hick (Clevedon) in the Area 16 final at Bristol City and County Indoor Bowls club seeking to reach the last 16 at Warner Lakeside, Hayling Island, next February.

Shadwell took a short break towards the end of October and beginning of November from the sport of bowls through illness and had to withdraw from the England men’s team currently competing in the world outdoor bowls championships in Christchurch, New Zealand.

However, he is now back playing indoors for Clarrie again and is hoping to mark his return in style on Sunday with victory at Bristol.

Wiltshire's men’s team made a fine start in the inter-county championship last Saturday at Whiteknights, Reading, coming from 70-53 down overall after 11 ends against Berkshire to claim a brilliant 108-95 win at 18 ends.

The team contained five players from Christie Miller: Darren Anteney, Paul Macdonald, Tom Newman, Steve and Wayne Snook.

All five retain their places and are joined by Andy Moore, who was unavailable for the Berkshire game, in the side selected to play local rivals Gloucestershire at Cotswold IBC (Stroud) in the second round on December 17.

Wiltshire’s ladies begin their bid for glory in the inter-county championship for the Atherley Trophy on the same day when they face Dorset at home at North Wilts in a second round tie.

Miller supply four members to the team: Sheila Garlick, Eileen Hawker, Bev Lilley and Mo Price.
