BRADFORD Town manager Danny Greaves admits he is disappointed in the way his side crashed out of the FA Vase.

The home side had one foot in the fifth round as they held a 2-1 lead over Southall with 88 minutes on the clock when Mark Wall fired home from a Matt Morris corner.

But the Spartan South Midlands Football League Division One outfit weren’t done there as they were able to pull back level through Gary Senior to nudge the game into extra time.

From there, it went from bad to worse as Adam Louth converted a penalty for the visitors. Bradford then tried everything they could to restore parity, which included goalkeeper Jamie Bartlett pushing forward.

However, this would see them come undone as Southall broke late on, before Wayne Harvey added his second after carrying the ball for 60 yards to tap into an empty net.

“It was a bit surreal the way the game panned out, when you go 2-1 up in the 88th minute you expect to see the game out,” said Greaves.

“It was a massive kick in the teeth, everyone was very down and flat in the changing room afterwards. It was a very disappointing way to get knocked out.

“In my opinion, we have dominated the game and made countless chances, it just wasn’t our day.

“The difference between the two sides was luck, a bit of know how and experience to see a game out.

“From our point of view, we wanted to stay in the cup as long as possible because there was a good vibe around the place.

“It breeds confidence and competition for places, but it does give us the chance to focus on the bread and butter of the league."

The Bradford boss has now highlighted the importance of this weekend’s clash with Bitton as his troops aim to move on from their cup upset.

“We need to bounce back, starting on Saturday. It’s so important, I think the way in which we lost the game means it may take the boys a little bit longer to get over it,” he added.

“That is going to be our biggest job this week, to pick the boys back up and it’s massively important that they try and get that win as quickly as possible.

“Saturday is a big game for us because we have our targets for the year and what we want to aim for.”
