A 6-0 VICTORY for runaway leaders Melksham Town A at Hilperton United means that Dave Jenkins side are edging ever closer to lifting the title for the very first time.

The triumph saw them extend their unbeaten run to 14 matches and maintains their nine-point lead over the chasing pack, currently headed by Freshford United.

Graham Griffiths and a Rhys Talmash double put Melksham 3-0 up at half-time.

A sublime 30-yard strike from Will Steed, Ben Macey and a third of the game for Talmash saw Melksham double their score in the second half as they sealed a 6-0 success.

Freshford United’s 6-1 home success over Stockton & Codford kept them in with a fighting chance of finishing in the top two.

Dave Percival picked up a long ball from keeper Adam Sheppard to fire the hosts into the lead.

Luke Murden, assisted by Weleed Bakali, made it 2-0 and a Mike Little assist saw Murden grab his second and Freshford’s third before a goalkeeping error led to him tapping home his third of the game for 4-0.

Murden turned provider for Theo Sing as Freshford opened up a 5-0 lead, before Jason Povey against his former club gave Stockton their consolation.

However, Bakali fired in for 6-1 after an assist from Dean Ranger.

Following back-to-back defeats in the league, defending champions Luxol St Andrews got back to winning ways with an 11-0 victory at basement side Heytesbury.

Tom Rooney’s volley from 12 yards gave Luxol the lead on three minutes, Josh Hard made it 2-0 from the penalty spot in the eighth minute and it was 3-0 midway through the half when Mark Reynolds netted the first of his three goals.

A second from Rooney and a further two from Hard, that saw him complete a hat-trick, gave Luxol a 6-0 interval lead.

Captain Adam Potter made it 7-0 and Ben Ryder added the eighth before Rooney completed his hat-trick for 9-0.

Heytesbury had Darren Dimmock sent off on 75 minutes and after that two quick-fire goals for Reynolds completed the rout.

Semington Magpies moved a step closer to first division survival after they secured a share of the spoils from a 1-1 draw with fellow relegation candidates Trowbridge Town Reserves.

Leading 1-0 at the interval to a Sean O’Brien goal, which came when he headed in a delightful Robert Biggs cross.

Semington looked set for all three points before a mix-up in their defence saw them fail to deal with a long ball into the area which allowed Dean Mathieson to bag a late equaliser for Trowbridge.
