WILTSHIRE’S Paralympic champion swimmer Stephanie Millward is to launch this year’s Trowbridge Big T triathlon when it is held in May.

Now in its fourth year, the BIG T triathlon, which is run by Hot Chilli Triathlon Club, is a popular spring event ,providing the right balance of challenges and endurance for both novice and experienced triathletes.

Event headquarters will be based at Clarendon Sports Centre in Trowbridge, where the pool swims take place.

The following undulating cycle route combines fast flat stretches with quiet Wiltshire back lanes before the final section sees competitors run on a mostly flat course along the streets and through Southwick Country Park.

Hot Chilli head coach Richard Smith said: “Stephanie is an inspiring sportswomen, competing at the highest level of her discipline, and is yet so engaging with the youngsters and novices in sport.

“With the successful introduction of the club’s junior section last autumn and the delivery of the highest quality triathlon training programme, Hot Chilli Triathlon Club is going from strength-to-strength in the hope of inspiring and supporting the development of future talent within the sport.

“Having role models of Stephanie’s calibre engaging and supporting this club event will further motivate our members to achieve their potential and goals.”

There are two distances available for competitors at the event on May 1, with the shorter sprint option combining a 400m swim, 25km cycle and a 5km run.

"For a longer challenge, the enduro distance takes in a 600m swim, 48km cycle and 10km run. Shorter age-appropriate distances are also planned for youngsters.
