WESTBURY United’s Otis Young snatched a late 3-2 win for his side as they wrapped up all three points over local rivals Corsham Town at Meadow Lane.

The hosts took the lead in the first half when Leon Greenland’s free-kick evaded the Corsham keeper in the 20th minute.

They then carried their slender advantage into the break but Corsham soon hit back with a goal of their own to restore parity five minutes into the second period.

George Bendle got United back in the driving seat on the hour mark with a simple tap-in, following good work from Martin Johnson.

After a quiet spell in the second half, the visitors got back on terms once again in the final five minutes to take the score to 2-2.

But it was the hosts who were able to seal the win when Young rifled home in injury time to settle the game.

Westbury joint manager Neil Kirkpatrick was delighted with the spirit his team showed to come away with a dramatic victory but admits it shouldn’t have been such a close contest.

“It should never have got to that stage, to be honest. We actually gave them quite a roasting at the end of the game,” he said “It probably knocked the wind out of their sails but we were so sloppy. There were a lot of positives about the performance because we showed great character.

“With a couple of minutes to go, we let them equalise but we didn’t roll over, we battled back to get the win.

“It was probably the poorest performance since we have been at the club. Over the last few weeks, the team have set their standards higher than that.

“They knew in themselves they didn’t play well and they didn’t perform on Saturday.”

Westbury will look to carry their momentum into this weekend when they travel to another Wiltshire rival - Devizes Town.

Meanwhile, Warminster Town were unable to build on Saturday’s 2-2 draw at Wincanton Town as they settled for another point after drawing 1-1 away at Calne Town on Wednesday night.

The visitors led early on in the second period, however, George Heard levelled matters for Warminster.
