AS another week goes by in this huge mistake of a season, Swindon Town continue to edge closer to the basement of the football league after suffering their fourth defeat in a row.

When Bradford striker Charlie Wyke converted his side's winning goal last weekend it didn’t hurt like a last minute winning goal normally would.

We all knew that with this squad of players, disappointment and collapsing under pressure is their speciality.

With just seven games remaining and Town seven points away from safety only the most optimistic fan would think Luke Williams side have any chance of escaping relegation.

To add embarrassment on top of embarrassment at the club this week, the full conversation between director of football Tim Sherwood and referee Mark Brown from Town’s 1-0 defeat at Bury last month has been revealed, a conversation that led to Sherwood receiving a two-match stadium ban.

You can probably guess the former Tottenham and Aston Villa manager wasn’t the most tactful in the way he expressed himself, as he was aggressive and repeatedly swore at the official at half-time.

I think it’s pretty safe to say idea of hiring Sherwood by Lee Power hasn’t lived up to the now famous line spouted by the chairman last November - “This is one of the biggest appointments the club has ever made.”

Looking back, Sherwood should have come in and just said he was director of football, nothing more, and would be in charge of transfers, which is the normally responsibility of that role.

By saying he was involved in picking the team, formation and would be showing up at training, that must’ve given out mixed messages to the playing staff, and when he suddenly gave up those responsibilities six weeks ago it made Town look like a little pet project that he got bored with.
