TROWBRIDGE Town Ladies narrowly failed to win the Wiltshire County Cup after a 4-3 final defeat against league champions Swindon Spitfires.

Spitfires piled on the pressure and in the 24th minute captain Claire Moreton’s pass allowed Katie Wadey to score.

Trowbridge levelled as Lauren Gowen’s shot took a deflection over Shona Hanlon and the west Wiltshire side took the lead through Mia Blazey.

In the second half Spitfires fought hard for an equaliser and on 51 minutes Wadey was fouled in the penalty area and the resulting penalty was calmly slotted home by Sarah Stacey.

Spitfires took the lead on 56 minutes as Stacey scored her second, but Blazey found the net to restore parity.

Charley Reynolds came on for Natalia Wilson and with her first kick, her corner found Moreton who headed home securing Spitfires’ 4-3 win.
