WESTBURY skipper Alex Senneck was delighted to see his side return to winning ways with a home victory over Biddestone.

Seven days earlier Senneck’s troops were left with an unfamiliar taste in their mouths as they suffered their first defeat of their Premier Two Glos/Wilts campaign at Cheltenham.

However, that defeat would have little impact on confidence, as the hosts claimed a comfortable 69-run win over Biddestone.

“We were missing a couple of players so it was good to rebound and win with a slightly weaker side from the previous week,” said Senneck.

“We bounced back with a great deal of confidence and character. It’s important, especially after a loss and it demonstrates to the rest of the league that losing is an occasional experience.

“Winning is a habit and so is losing, so we wanted to break that cycle straight away and get back to winning ways.”

After winning the toss Westbury opted to bat, and were able to post a total of 271-6 with Brannon Varley topping the scoring with 112.

“It was a pretty comfortable win, when we were batting there was a bit of weather around but that didn’t show in the end. The guys did the business for us up front,” he added.

“Brannon batted superbly and he has had a very good start to the season but he was particularly strong on Saturday.

“He completed dominated the opposition’s attack and was a class apart. We have some very aggressive and assertive batsmen who are able to put the opposition under pressure.”

With the target set at 271, Westbury were just as convincing with the ball as Senneck, Andy Carroll, Tom Lucas and Richard Mills all collected two wickets each, as they restricted Biddestone for 202-9.

Senneck now wants his troops to continue their form as they come up against another of the league’s in-form teams, Burbage & Easton Royal.
