TROWBRIDGE high jumper Tom Gale hit new heights as he claimed a bronze medal at the European Junior Championships in Italy today.

The John of Gaunt School pupil raised his personal best on three occasions during the men's high jump final as he made the podium in Grosetto.

The 18 year old cleared a height of 2.28m to go second on the UK junior all-time list as Maksim Nedasekau, of Belarus, clinched the gold medal with a new championship record of 2.33m.

Ukraine's Dmytro Nikitin took silver on the same 2.28m mark as Gale continued his own stellar summer, having already won three national titles – the England Athletics U20s titles indoors and outdoors and retaining his English Schools’ title.
