JOSH Jeffries hopes Wednesday’s home humbling by Weymouth is the exception rather than the rule at Frome Town after going through the full gamut of emotions in his side’s opening two games of the season.

Town claimed an eye-catching 3-1 win on the opening day of the season on Saturday at Basingstoke Town, but then found themselves on the end of a 4-1 thumping on their own turf against Weymouth in midweek.

A Josh Wakefield strike 11 seconds into the encounter threw the hosts’ pre-match plan into instant turmoil and further goals from the Terras’ Brandon Goodship, Jordan Rose and the impressive Ben Thomson piled on the agony, despite Marcus Mapstone’s sublime back-heel lob in response.

Jeffries, who had seen efforts from Mapstone, Jake Jackson and Jon Davies down Basingstoke four days earlier, was withering in his condemnation of the display against Weymouth.

“In my opinion, it’s the worst the lads have given me since I was at the club,’’ he told the Wiltshire Times.

“We had a couple of bad performances last season but not many and luckily I haven’t had many of them to deal with.

“It’s hard to take. There were no positives from it for me and we stayed in the changing room afterwards and there were a few home truths.

“I guess it happens and I’m hoping we’ll learn from it. Credit to Weymouth, who played some very nice stuff but we didn’t deal with it.

“Saturday (against Basingstoke) was good and a plus for us. To go away to a side like that on the opening day and get that result was great.

“You’re just keen to get that first win under your belt and the first half in particularly up there was very good.’’
