MELKSHAM Town manager Keiran Baggs declared himself content with a point as his side battled back from two goals down to share a 2-2 draw at home to second-placed Willand Rovers in the Toolstation Premier Division on Saturday.

James Blake struck twice in the opening half-hour to put Rovers in control at Oakfields but Melksham came roaring back and Tyler Sibbick cut the deficit prior to the interval before Dan Demkiv’s second-half strike ensured honours finished even.

Although the result means Melksham have now gone five games without a win, Baggs’ side have drawn against the division’s top three teams – Buckland Athletic, Willand and Street – in that time.

The Town boss has also had to deal with a host of selection issues in recent weeks so is encouraged by how his side are faring.

“I would have taken a point before the game because we are still struggling with injuries and unavailabilities,” said Baggs, whose team are fifth in the table.

“It was a decent way to bounce back from the disappointment of losing at Brislington in the midweek before as we fell well short of the standards we set in pre-season in that game.

“In the first couple of weeks of the season, we were flying high and everyone was talking about what we might be able to do this year, but I’ve said all along that we have to take the rough with the smooth.

“The games that we have played recently are all against the top sides, I don’t think anyone else’s fixture list has been has congested as ours.

“We’ve played everyone else in the top six already other than Bradford Town and we’re still picking up points from those games, so we have to take positives from that.”

Melksham have no game this weekend as the FA Vase takes centre stage, with Town having a bye until the next round of the competition.

With a host of first-team players out on the sidelines at present, Baggs hopes some respite will work wonders for his team.

“It’s a welcome break. We have had so many games – we’ve played 12 already – and it’s been two a week all season,” said Baggs.

“It will be a good chance to get people back fit and ready for the Hengrove Athletic game the following weekend.

“We will still get the lads together and train on Saturday because we’re working hard to try to get that next win that we desperately want.”

Elsewhere, Bradford Town stretched their unbeaten start to the Premier Division season to an eighth game in a goalless draw away at Wells City.

Danny Greaves’ side are in league action this weekend and travel to early leaders Buckland.
