DOMINIC Webb took a magnificent seven-wicket haul as Warminster made it back-to-back wins at the start of the WEPL Wiltshire season with an emphatic 134-run victory away at Calne.

Having set the hosts 176 to win, Webb (7-13) made sure Calne never got near that as they were skittled for just 41 in 20 overs.

Although Webb took the plaudits, Warminster captain Pete Hickerton was quick to praise his entire bowling attack as Rory Cullinan, Alex Adlam and John Powell also made the home side’s life a misery.

“The bowlers were exceptional. All four of the guys that did get a bowl just did a brilliant job. They cut right through them,” said Hickerton.

“Dom led the way and he was excellent. He ended up getting his best figures in WEPL cricket, so it shows how well he was bowling.

“It makes my job as captain a lot easier when they do that. It’s just a case of chucking them the ball and letting them do what they do.”

After winning the toss and electing to bat, Warminster looked well place for a big total after passing 100 for the loss of one wicket.

However, that did not really materialise and they were eventually dismissed for 175 off the penultimate ball of the innings.

Opener Jack Berrisford top scored with 39 before falling as one of Sean Adams’ four victims, with Adams then the only Calne player to reach double figure as they collapsed in reply.

Hickerton added: “It was a difficult pitch. It was quite slow and hard to score on.

“We should have been a bit closer to 200 but we were satisfied with 175. Then it’s a case of handing over to the bowlers and they did a fantastic job.”

Warminster began their campaign with victory at home to Swindon and are now one of four teams to boast two wins from two games this season.

At the other end of the table, four teams still remain without a victory.

“Without much of a pre-season due to the wet weather, I think teams are still sorting themselves out,” said Hickerton.

“For us to have won both games is brilliant. I think a few of the other sides that are two from two as well will emerge to be title contenders come the end of the season.”
