SKIPPER Pete Hickerton says strength in depth in the club’s bowling department can be attributed to their solid start to the WEPL Wiltshire campaign.

Four games into the new season, Warminster maintain a flawless record of four straight wins, their latest being by a seven-wicket margin at home to Chippenham.

The hosts won the toss and looked to utilise their formidable bowling force by opting for the field but met some resistance as the away side were 87-2, before Warminster were able to whip them into shape and dispatch them for 117.

John Powell was the primary force for Warminster this week with four wickets, although he was back up well by Tristan Lundqvist and Elliot Hooper who got two each.

“The bowlers did a great job this weekend and that set us up nicely for a win at the weekend,” said Hickerton.

“Chippenham started well with the bat and then the bowlers were able to drag them back down a little bit.

“They went through them in the end and made quite light work of it, I thought we might be looking at chasing 200 plus.

“As a unit the bowlers work really well and they bowl into brilliant areas. We have quite a lot of variety in between them all too.

“We brought Tristan in this weekend, he hasn’t bowled at all this year and we brought him on and he took two wickets.

“We have quite a lot of depth there and quite a lot of variety in terms of seamers, spinners and people who do different things.

“They have all taken it in turns to be star of the show, it’s not been the same person and that is largely down to the depth we have.”

Next up for Hickerton, who returned to the side at the weekend, is a journey Marshfield who are also in good form with three wins so far.

One man who won’t be making the trip is Rory Cullinan as he is unavailable for selection, as the Warminster skipper anticipates a tough fixture.

Hickerton said: “They’re one of the sides to beat.

“I’m looking forward to playing, I missed one game due to my sister’s wedding and one due to university commitments.”
