CLARENDON Academy U15 girls team have been crowned Wiltshire champions after victory in the county final.

The Trowbridge school were drawn in pool B of the event against Kingdown School, Lavington and Sheldon schools.

Their first game was against newcomers Kingdown but Clarendon bowled and fielded well to clinch a comfortable victory.

Against Lavington, the fielding against excelled but the batting was even better as they again won with relative ease.

The final pool game pool against unbeaten Sheldon narrowly went the way of the Trowbridge girls to take them through to the semi-finals where they faced the runners up of pool A, John Bentley, again recording a comfortable triumph.

In the final against South Wilts Grammar School, they kept their opponents down to a score of 62 and with two balls left Clarendon needed 12 runs to win, striking two sixes to complete the triumph.

Clarendon 's girls have done the double or indoor and outdoor titles in Wiltshire and have not lost a game all season.

They now go on to represent Wiltshire in the regional final in Winchester on Wednesday, July 11.

WARMINSTER clinched a 30-run victory in their U16s T20 league match against Old Bristolians.

David Aspray (29) and Lewis Green's 19 off 12 gave a fine start to the innings before Ollie Illingworth (24 off 24) and Joe Willis' (37 off 22) high-octane 66-run partnership later on.

Bowlers Matt Henley and Alex Hampson restricted the Old Bristolians openers, well backed up by the spin of Sam Butler and Jake Small before the Illingworth and Willis partnership was resumed with the ball to stop the Old Bristolians fightback.
