WARMINSTER vice-captain Jack Berrisford admits his side are looking no further ahead than their next game, despite winning all of their opening eight WEPL Wiltshire fixtures.

Berrisford’s troops top the league table by 33 points with Marshfield, Royal Wootton Bassett and Chippenham their nearest rivals.

A convincing 45-run win at home to Corsham on Saturday after declaring provided Warminster with a further boost, but Berrisford remains aware of the threat that other teams pose.

He said: “We’re thrilled at the moment, you can’t ask for more than eight wins out of eight.

“Having said that we were very lucky on Saturday. The outfield was quick and the hot weather made for a lovely wicket.

“It was a good opportunity for us to put a big total together, which we did.

“We felt around 250 was a score at which we could declare. We declared against Marlborough earlier this season and that worked for us.

“With the strong season we have had added to Corsham struggling this season, we felt had a chance to pick up a couple more points.”

Warminster’s win on Saturday didn’t come without its risks for the home side as skipper Pete Hickerton opted to declare after 45 overs.

Winning after declaration would earn Warminster an additional two league points, and it proved a fruitful decision for the home side – who picked up 22 points in total.

And having confidence in the bowling attack is key for Berrisford, who will next take to the field when Warminster face Royal Wootton Bassett this weekend.

He said: “We’ve picked up an extra two bowling points for bowling teams out for less than 120 five times this season.

“We were missing three bowlers on Saturday so we were a bit lighter, but the guys that came in did a great job.

“Royal Wootton Bassett will be a tough test for us, and we’re not thinking any further ahead than the next game.”
