THE final two days of June saw the culmination of the two premier schools competitions as Wiltshire Cricket staged their Kwik Cricket county finals.

A total of 19 qualifying competitions created the field for the biggest collection of school teams of the year as 260 children, as well as numerous teachers and parents, came together at Trowbridge CC.

In both competitions, the winning schools qualify for the regional rounds taking place at Bristol Grammar School later in July.

Thursday saw the winners of the mixed competition resolved. The 16 schools were grouped into four pools, with only the winners progressing to the semi-finals.

Pool A was dominated by Great Bedwyn School, who won all of their group matches, but Pool B was closer as both Kings Lodge and The Mead Schools finished with two wins, although the latter progressed on runs scored.

Pool C saw Sherston School finish undefeated, while Broadchalke School did the same in Group D.

In the semis, Broadchalke beat The Mead, while Great Bedwyn had the edge over Sherston.

In the final, despite losing early wickets, previous winners Broadchalke were too strong for Great Bedwyn and captured the trophy and the title of Wiltshire champions.

Meanwhile, the girls only competition saw 10 schools compete in two groups of five, with the top two teams in each group making it through to the semis.

In Pool A, Peatmoor School and Marlborough St Mary’s both qualified, while Ramsbury School and Five Lanes did likewise in an incredibly tight Pool B, which saw three teams finish level on points.

The semi-finals were equally close games, with Five Lanes too strong for Peatmoor and Marlborough St Mary’s making it through at the expense of Ramsbury.

The final was a tight as any other match seen during the day, with Five Lanes eventually running out winners over St Mary’s.
