WARMINSTER put in another dominant display at the weekend as they extended their winning run to nine games after beating Royal Wootton Bassett.

Peter Hickerton’s troops are now the only unbeaten side in WEPL Wiltshire and are over 30 points clear of second-placed Chippenham.

Bassett won the toss, put the hosts in to bat and Warminster quickly got to work as they stormed to 246-4 before declaring on a sweltering afternoon.

Bradley Parry top-scored with an unbeaten 77 and was superbly supported by Hickerton (60) Elliot Hooper (48) and Jack Berrisford (45).

After making such a swift start, they were equalling impressive with the ball despite some resistance from Bassett who reached 76-4.

However, once Hickerton and co were able to dispatch Basset’s top order, they ripped through the remaining five batsmen, claiming five wickets at the expense of just 11 runs.

Hooper claimed five wickets as Rory Cullinan and John Powell got two each, the latter collecting his 300th in WEPL in the process.

Hickerton said: “We lost the toss and it was very kind of Bassett to let us bat in the sun.

“Jack set up a platform for us at the top of the order, then Elliott came in and scored quickly. We had some really good scores from the top order.

“Bassett got off to a fast start with the bat but we kept taking wickets. We just knew if we kept chipping away that they would collapse, and that’s what happened.

“They didn’t have the depth in their batting line-up this weekend. Rory came on and deserved more, and then John took his 300th wicket in the league. We have been blessed by a superb bowing attack this year.”

Next up for the leaders is Swindon, who are unbeaten in their last five outings.

Hickerton said: “We are surprised they are where they are. We thought they would challenge for the title.

“We are going to have perform well if we are going to beat them.”
