CROCKED Corsham skipper Tom Foley hopes his side can continue to lay down a marker for future success after watching them record a seven-run Premier Two Glos/Wilts triumph over Lechlade on Saturday.

Foley, nursing a dislocated shoulder sustained a couple of weeks ago, saw his men stay on the fringes of the race for the top two positions as Tom Smith’s bowling proved decisive.

“We’re not looking too far ahead,’’ said Foley. “We hope we can continue to build from this year. It’s looking more positive than a few weeks ago and the boys have done well. Hopefully there are at least a couple more wins to come from us.’’

After winning the toss and batting, Corsham amassed 207 all out in 46 overs, thanks mainly to Tom Abbott’s 75 and the helping hand of 45 extras from the visitors.

Max Mortimer took 4-54 and Tom Barnes 3-35 for Lechlade.

Smith was dismissed for a golden duck after coming in to bat at four, but emphatically made amends with the ball as Lechlade fell just short of the required target.

Skipper Freddie Martin’s unbeaten 42 proved the highlight of the visitors’ reply but Smith took 5-43 to slow them down, Lechlade ending on 200-9 at the end.

Elsewhere, Westbury ended a run of three defeats in a row with a 47-run success at home to Burbage & Easton Royal.

After winning the toss, hosts Westbury decided to bat first but were restricted to 173-6 from their 50 overs as Remano Esau (45) and Richard Mills (40) led the way with the bat.

Burbage were soon in trouble as they began their reply and fell to 70-7, but they were given a glimmer of hope by Jon Chandler’s 51.

Chandler, though, fell with the score on 115, and 11 runs later, it was all over as Andy Carroll took 3-22 and there were two wickets each for Alex Senneck, Dan Gill and Michael Coles.

Elsewhere, Trowbridge suffered a third defeat in a row as they lost by five wickets away at title-chasing Thornbury.

Tom Weaver’s side won the toss and elected to bat in Gloucestershire but could only reach 201 before being bowled out with eight overs left in their innings.

Billy Cookson’s 71 seemed to have Trowbridge well placed as they passed 100 for the loss of just three wickets, but there was little support from the tail. Luke Davis led the Thornbury attack with 3-33.

Strong batting at the top of the order aided the hosts as they began their run chase, with opener Nick Willis-Stovold scoring 71.

Although Mike Reynolds picked up 3-32 with the ball for Trowbridge, Thornbury eased to their target with more than 12 overs to spare to finish on 202-5.
