TROWBRIDGE were involved in just one of two fixtures to be completed in Premier Two Glos/Wilts owing to the wet weekend weather – although they may have wished their trip to Rockhampton was washed out altogether as they slipped to a 47-run defeat.

The visitors won the toss and elected to field first, and were quickly into their stride as Brad Angell (2-35) dismissed opener Matt Tyler cheaply.

Rockhampton soon rebuilt, though, and a 106-run stand between Jamie Wakefield (61) and Guy Brothwood (50) had them in good stead.

Will Tyler hit 53 to continue that momentum to help the hosts score 235-7 off their 50 overs, with Harry Veal joining Angell in picking up two wickets.

Trowbridge’s response got off to a disastrous start as opener Tom Oakley and captain Tom Weaver were both dismissed for ducks to leave them in trouble at 4-2.

Jamie Wakefield continued to terrorise the visiting batsmen and returned fine figures of 5-44, aided by 3-41 from Brothwood.

Trowbridge were eventually all out for 188 in the 43rd over, with Veal contributing their top score with 41.

Corsham’s home match against county rivals Westbury & District failed to produce a result due to the unwelcome downpour across the region.

The hosts had reached 151-8 off 47 overs before the wet weather set in and made any further play impossible.

The league leaders suffered a first defeat of the summer in their previous outing when they went down at home to Purton, and Peter Hickerton’s side must now wait an extra week to try to reinsert their dominance on the division when they host Marshfield on Saturday.
