WILTSHIRE saw their early initiative wrestled away as 21 wickets fell on the opening day of their Unicorns Championship Western Division clash against Wales at Pontarddulais yesterday.

The visitors were in the ascendancy early on as, having won the toss and inserted the home side, they proceeded to skittle them out for just 84 in under 30 overs.

Tahir Afridi took 3-17 and Ashur Morrison 3-26, while Luke Evans (2-15) and Ryan Murray (2-16) completed the demolition.

But the Wiltshire reply also ended on the opening day as they were removed for 161 in under 34 overs, player-coach Tom Morton hitting 71, while the home side's Port Talbot Town and former Cardiff MCCU seamer Richard Edwards took 5-65 - his first five wicket haul in Minor Counties cricket - and Newport's Joe Voke 4-28.

Wales' second innings had reached 130-1 at stumps, Voke hitting 67 and Omar Malik unbeaten on 53.
