WARMINSTER’S seemingly relentless march towards the WEPL Wiltshire title further stalled on Saturday after their winless run stretched to a third week.

Back on July 14, Peter Hickerton’s side looked certainties to be crowned champions this summer after claiming an 11th successive victory.

However, they have since lost to Purton, suffered a rain-off against second-placed Chippenham and on Saturday went down to a three-wicket defeat at home to Marshfield at the weekend.

All that has seen Warminster’s lead at the top of the standings trimmed to seven points with four matches of the season remaining.

Warminster won the toss and elected to bat on Saturday, but had to make do with a total of 218-7 off their 50 overs.

Rory Cullinan top scored for the hosts with 68 and received good supper from Bradley Perry (47) as Thomas Lamb led the Marshfield bowling attack with figures of 3-25.

Bradley Small then did his best to keep the Marshfield reply honest, and took 3-34 as the visitors slipped to 60-5.

However, just as the game looked to be getting away from his side, Marshfield captain James Williams came to the crease and scored a battling 82 to turn things around.

Although Williams departed with the visitors still 13 runs short of victory, the damage had been done and they got over the winning line with 22 balls to spare, finishing on 219-7.

Warminster travel to bottom side Marlborough on Saturday as they seek a return to winning ways.
