MARK Collier says he was delighted with his Chippenham Town side as they picked up their second win of the season on Tuesday.

On the hunt for a comeback win after the weekend home reverse against Welling, the manager’s wish was granted as a long trip to Torquay United’s Plainmoor ground saw them return with all three points from victory against Truro City.

Defender Will Richards popped up with the game’s opening goal to hand the visitors a 1-0 lead at the interval.

The hosts hit back after the restart before Nat Jarvis notched to clinch a 2-1 win for Chippenham.

The most pleasing aspect for Collier was the reaction from his troops, who had been disappointed with their weekend showing.

“We are pleased to get some more points on the board because without a doubt, we under-performed on Saturday,” he said.

“We wanted a reaction from that, there was no mad panic but we needed to make sure we nipped it in the bud.

“The logistics of playing Truro always make it tricky.

“We made some little changes and overall we were very good value for the victory.

“In fact, we were disappointed we didn’t score more because we made numerous chances but their goalkeeper made some decent saves.

“The good thing is when they equalised we stayed calm and got a very good winner through Nat Jarvis.”

For the game, the Chippenham boss opted to make several tactical alterations, as well as four changes to Saturday’s starting XI.

He was happy with the outcome and believes it shows the quality of the players at the club, as they are able to take on new information and implement it so quickly.

“We just did a couple of things differently and we are going to need to do that this season, there is no way we can just play 4-4-2 or 4-3-3,” he added.

“We need to be flexible in our system. There was good rotation in midfield but we were pleased with how it went.

“The players just need to be comfortable with the changes before we go out onto the pitch.

“Every man needs to know his job and if he does, then we will be fine.”

The Bluebirds have another journey on Saturday as they make their way to Eastbourne Borough.

With the games coming thick and fast, Collier concded he was happy his players were given the opportunity to right a wrong on Tuesday.

The manager reckons the mood will be much brighter for their midweek training session after their away win.

“The mood at training will be much different on Thursday night than it would have been if we didn’t play on Tuesday,” added the Hardenhuish Park boss.

“We got some more points so we look forward to going to Eastbourne Borough on Saturday.

“There is nothing better than winning games of football and It has an extra edge when you win away from home.

“To go to Truro and play on a good surface made it even sweeter.’’
