CORSHAM’S flawless start to the Southern Counties South season continued as they secured a second bonus-point triumph by putting Bradford on Avon to the sword 26-12 at Lacock Road.

The home side took the lead in the first half with two tries by full-back Robbie Robinson and wing Kalif Barnes, the second converted by Andy Williams.

Bradford struck back with tries from Rufus Falkner-Lee and Olly Shrubb, one converted by Josh Felix, to cut the lead but Corsham finished the half strongly and Scott Parry went in under the posts to make the score 19-12 at the break.

Corsham scored the only try of the second half, with Alex Bilton capping an outstanding performance in the back row by going over for the bonus-point score after a strong driving maul from the pack, Williamson adding his third conversion.

Corsham head coach Tim Draper said: “It was a very competitive game and we had to step up our performance from last week.

“We played well in attack in the first half and put ourselves in a strong position.

“We didn’t capitalise on the opportunities we created in the second half but credit must go to Bradford for their determination in defence to keep us out.’’

The defeat means Bradford are still without a win following last season’s promotion from Dorset & Wilts One North, having lost their opener 40-27 at Yeovil, but coach Dave George does not think they are too far from setting that right.

“Although we didn’t score any points in the second half, that 40 minutes was probably the closer of the two as we only lost it 7-0,” said George.

“We struggled at the set-piece. Corsham were better throughout in that regard and it meant we didn’t get much possession to work with.

“We are still working on things, but it’ll come. We are scoring tries so now we just need to tighten up defensively, which I felt we did anyway from the Yeovil game.

“Once we get the set-piece going, I am sure we will get off and running.”
