Guy looking forward to Warminster challenge

6:07am Saturday 17th May 2008

JASON Guy has revealed his delight at taking over as boss of Wessex League Division One Warminster Town.

Guy took the top job at Weymouth Street after Paul Newman left following the last game of the season.

Guy said: "I was offered to do it so I thought, Why not?' I'm looking forward to it, it should be good.

"I've never actually managed but I think I'm capable of it and I'll give it a shot.

"It's going to be a new experience. I'm quite young to be taking on this job but I've played to quite a good standard so hopefully I can drag that into the players."

The 26-year-old is setting his sights high for Warminster this season.

The club finished seventh in the Wessex League Division One last season but Guy wants them to go even higher next term.

Guy said: "My aim is to get the consistency and I'm looking to be top three.

"I think we've got a team that could have been there this season and if we can sort out the consistency we could really break into it.

"The board have got confidence in me, but they might not by Christmas,"

joked Guy.

Guy made only brief appearances in a Warminster shirt towards the end of last season following an 18 month lay-off, but he hopes it will be different in the next campaign.

Guy said: "I'm hoping to get back into playing instead of being a sub every week if I can.

"With my injury last season I was just enjoying being an assistant, coaching the lads and being a part of it.

"I was hoping to push my fitness and get back into it but they made me the offer so I'm going to try and incorporate a bit of both."

The new boss plans to bring in several new faces this summer.

Guy said: "I'm going to get in another three or four players. I've spoken to them already and they are going to come to pre-season."
