Scoble tops at Calne match

THE Calne match fished on the Avon at Christian Malford on Sunday produced reasonable sport.

Dave Scoble, of Calne, won with a bream catch weighing 14lb 3oz, taken on feeder-fished worm. Keith Knotman, of Calne, was second with a bream catch weighing 9lb 4oz, taken on pole-fished worm.

He was followed by Paul Cadogan, of Calne, with a bream catch weighing 7lb 8oz, taken on pole-fished casters.

Other placings: 4 Guy Manners, Chippenham, 5lb 10oz; 5 Simon Knotman, Calne, 5lb 5oz; 6 James Daniels, Devizes, 4lb 2oz.

Midweek win for Cardwell

THE midweek open match at Viaduct Fishery produced lower weights than of late but produced one of the closest finishes of the season.

Top spot went to Phil Cardwell, of Thatchers Tackle, with an all-carp catch weighing 80lb 13oz, taken alternating with waggler and legered pellets.

Marc Illingworth, of Southampton, matched the winner fish for fish but had to settle for second prize with a carp catch weighing 80lb 11oz, taken on waggler-fished pellets. Roland Hayward, from Frome, was third with a carp catch weighing 75lb 12oz, taken on waggler-fished pellets.

Other placings: 4 Dave Bull, Yeovil Town FC, 50lb; 5 Les Moore, Bacons, 45lb 15oz.

Dolman wins with all-carp catch

THE Calne evening match fished at Hazeland found the fish difficult to tempt and weights were low.

Martin Dolman, of Calne, won with a carp catch weighing 3lb 2oz, taken on pole-fished red maggots. James Daniels, of Devizes, was runner-up with a chub and roach catch weighing 2lb 2oz, taken on pole-fished casters. Nigel Smith, of Calne, was third with a perch and roach catch weighing 1lb 10oz, taken on pole-fished pinkies.

Other placings: 4 Nigel Hiscocks, Devizes, 1lb 3oz; 5 Shane Belcher, Calne, 15oz; 6 Tim Carr, Calne, 13oz.

Mixed sport at Trowbridge open

THE Trowbridge open match fished on the Avon at Staverton on Wednesday produced mixed sport.

In-form Bath matchman Paul Barnfield once again hit top spot with a mixed catch of small chub and perch weighing 9lb 1oz, taken on pole-fished worm.

Robin Guy, from Melksham, kept up his good form in second spot with an all-chub catch weighing 7lb 11oz, taken on waggler-fished red maggots.

Robert Randall, from Gillingham, took third prize with a mixed catch of roach and small chub weighing 6lb 11oz, taken on waggler-fished red maggots.

Other placings: 4 Richard Chave, Gillingham, 3lb 15oz; 5 Kevin Grant, Trowbridge, and Dave Foster, Bradford, 3lb 7oz.

Nicholls finds winning formula

COMPETITORS in the Bathampton over 55s/disabled match enjoyed excellent sport at Bridge Pool, Hunstrete.

Mike Nicholls, from Bitton, won with the best catch of the current series with a carp and silver fish catch weighing 108lb 1oz, taken alternating with pole-fished casters and paste.

Runner-up was Terry Bruton, from Stoke St Michael, with a carp catch weighing 65lb 13oz, taken on shallow fished waggler pellets.

Dave Bacon, from Bath, was third with another carp catch weighing 51lb 1oz, taken on pole-fished pellets. Mike Nicholls also clinched the silver fish award with a weight of 14lb 9 z.

Other placings: 4 Martin Alexander, Bristol, 39lb 5oz; 5 Colin Young, Bath, 36lb 14oz; 6 Pete Phillips, Keynsham, 33lb 4oz.

Poppleton takes top prize

THE Airsprung evening match fished on Friday at Barton Farm produced mixed catches.

Mark Poppleton, from Trowbridge, won with a mixed catch of roach and skimmers weighing 9lb 10oz, taken on pole-fished bronze maggots. Richard Whitmarsh, from Frome, was second with a mixed catch of roach and small chub weighing 6lb 1oz, taken on stick-floated red maggots. Richard Stainer, from Trowbridge, was third with a bream and roach catch weighing 5lb 5oz and Bill Turner, from Trowbridge, was fourth spot with a roach and skimmer catch weighing 2lb 9oz.
