THE Wiltshire Cricket Board held its inaugural county youth presentation evening at Devizes Town Hall to recognise some of the excellent performances across the county girls and boys age group squads.
The highlight of this success was the achievement of the county under 13, 14 and 15 squads in all qualifying for the quarter finals of the ECB National Knockout Cup.
The under 15s went on to the national finals, the only non-first class county to do so, where they competed with Essex, Lancashire and Yorkshire.
The Board also signed a sponsorship deal with hotel and holiday resort company Seasons Holidays, whose chairman Barry Hurley presented some of the awards.
Guest speaker Richard Scott, an ex-professional cricketer and the current Middlesex coach.
The evening culminated in Alan Crouch, the WCB Head of Performance, presenting two special achievement awards and an overall player of the year award for all age groups.
The first recipient was wicketkeeper and batsman Harry Hawkins, who has recently been offered an academy contract with Gloucestershire County Cricket Club and has also been selected for the South West England tour to West Indies in the new year.
The second special achievement award was given to fast bowler Craig Miles, who was influential in the success of the U15 county team in 2009 and was selected for England Under 15s.
The overall player of the year award for 2009 was given to Tom Alsop, who enjoyed an exceptional season for the county U13s for whom he made contributions of 114 not out against Gloucestershire, 96 against Oxfordshire and 55 against Middlesex.
