CHIPPENHAM TOWN earned a point as they held Banbury United to a goalless draw on Tuesday night.
The Bluebirds dominated possession for large spells of the game but saw few clear-cut opportunities come their way on a cold night in Oxfordshire.
Chippenham keeper Chris Snoddy was called into action after just 10 minutes, saving well after Banbury’s Ollie Stanbridge was put in the clear by Declan Benjamin.
Shortly after, a bizarre mix-up led to a golden opportunity for the hosts to take the lead.
After gathering the ball, Snoddy attempted to roll a pass quickly to skipper Ross Adams but the ball simply rebounded off the Chippenham defender and into the path of David Stone.
The Banbury striker swivelled and shot but luckily for the Bluebirds, the striker’s effort sailed wide of the goal.
Midway through the half, James Martin’s low cross was met by Sean Benison at the near post but the striker, playing on the right of a five-man midfield, couldn’t turn his effort goalwards.
In the second-half, Alan Griffin sent a shot into the side netting before the hosts’ George Redknap played in Stone.
The striker linked up with Jason Taylor before hitting a curling shot that was just tipped over by Snoddy.
The Bluebirds keeper saved again from Adam Learoyd midway through the half before Adie Mings’ side struck the upright.
Benison found himself in space on the right-hand side but his powerful shot crashed against the outside of the post.
A point moves Chippenham back above Stourbridge into tenth place.
