PAUL Brickley's prolific Westbury United side celebrated a century of goals on Tuesday night in a thrilling encounter at Meadow Lane.

Steve Seals' second half penalty brought up the magic number before late strikes from Wayne Wheeler and Matty Bown brought Bridport's seven game winning streak to a crashing halt.

A delighted Brickley said he expects more to come from the White Horse men, who galloped to fourth place in the First Division with their third successive win.

"I think we scored 101 goals four years ago when I was first team coach," he said. "But that was at the end of a long, hard season and we've still got 14 league games to go this time.

"We are definitely seen as a bit of a scalp at the moment. Teams really want to beat us when they come here and Bridport had definitely done their homework.

"Wayne Wheeler was targeted from the start and I think he was a bit anxious to score. He snatched at a few chances but his goal was magnificent.

"Nick Evans made four great saves early on, but I was always confident that we would get back into the game."

Bridport dominated the opening exchanges and took a deserved lead when Ryan Hayter beat Nick Evans with a crisp finish.

Evans then saved twice from Tony Cunningham as the visitors threatened to double their advantage and extend their winning run to eight matches.

Pete Ayton brought the White Horse men level after 24 minutes with a rare right-footed shot. Matty Bown's cross was only half cleared and Ayton arrived on cue to hammer the ball past Martin Peters from the edge of the box.

Westbury seized control in midfield and Peters had to react smartly to deny Paul Beavers' goalbound header just before the break.

The action continued in the second half when Nick Beales cleared off the line with Nick Stavri waiting to pounce. Evans had to be alert minutes later to deny Stavri's audacious 30-yard drive.

Both sides were awarded penalties within the space of three frantic second half minutes. First, Seals sealed Westbury's century from the spot after Tom Coggins had handled.

Two minutes later a fine run by Bridport's Andy Hitchcock was brought to an abrupt end by Lee Meaden and John Ritchie made no mistake from 12 yards.

Wayne Wheeler ended his barren spell since signing a contract with the club by scoring his first goal in three games to give Westbury the lead. Wheeler latched onto a loose ball and caught Peters by surprise with a first-time shot from 20 yards that powered into the net.

With Bridport searching for an equaliser, Peters was forced into a hasty clearance which was mishit to Nick Beales. The midfielder skewed his effort straight to Matty Bown, who raced clear to seal Westbury's third straight win.

Westbury will be without defender Mark Pearce for the trip to Minehead tomorrow, but should welcome back the teenage trio of Aaron Billet, Lee Morgan and Luke Smith.
