MOTOCROSS: Muddy Marvels

COMPETITORS at the annual King of the Castle meeting at Farleigh Castle battled through the mud to complete half of the set programme at the two-day meeting last weekend.

The event was hosting a round of the British Classic Championship for both the Pre 65 and Pre 72 machines.

In the Pre 65 class on Saturday, Cheadle’s Ricky Pedder battled his way to an excellent class win.

The trickier Sunday conditions saw Hednesford’s Carl Wollaston take class and overall triumphs.

Saturday’s Pre 72 class saw Chris Chell (Stoke on Trent) and Tim Dallaway, of Honiton, battle it out on BSAs, Chell with the win.

Reading’s Adrian Cox clinched Sunday’s outing, with Chell’s second enough for the overall win.

Conwy’s Chris Storey dominated the British Championship Classic class, the ASR Honda rider taking two race wins.

The 250cc and 125cc class saw Builth Wells youngster Joel Hughes win on Saturday and then lead Sunday’s outing before a mistake on lap two allowed Landrake’s Tony Dinham in for race and overall victory.

Third and second for Bristol’s Craig Levett gave him overall 125cc honours.

Another combined class was the 4-stroke and CCM classes, the former being a battle of the Marsh Freight HPF Honda riders Matt Stephenson (Huddersfield) and Preston’s Gary Parker.

Each had one victory, but Stephenson’s day two win was enough for an overall triumph.

In the CCM class, Parker’s brother Jem Parker, on his JBR, was second and first for overall success. Dursley’s Nick Toms took a start-to-finish victory in Saturday’s Over 50s class, Southampton’s Norman Emery winning on Sunday and overall.

Alan Deer (Taunton, Saturday) dominated both over 60s races, as did Maico 490cc rider Simon Hart, from Chippenham, in the over 40s event with two victories.

Bideford’s Jack Johns (Clubman 1) and Chris Nunn, from Newmarket, (Clubman 2) were also overall victors.

Top British riders contested the expert twinshock class, Rick Du-Feu, of Packmoor, winning race one from Huddersfield’s Matt Stephenson, who won race two but had to give way overall to his rival.

In the sidecar class, Guildford’s Paul Pelling and passenger Neal Bann took top spot in the expert class as father and son Simon and Joe Chell took two junior wins and overall glory.

The King Of the Castle race for solo riders saw Stephenson battle with Du-Feu and Gary Parker to take the title.

The Sidecar title went to Pelling and Bann.
