CHIPPENHAM TOWN: Rudge hails Bluebirds' passion

Chippenham Town chief Nathan Rudge was delighted with the spirit shown by his players as they battled to a 4-3 victory over Cambridge City yesterday.

The Bluebirds had to dig deep in a thrilling encounter at Hardenhuisk Park and despite the manner of their first win of the new season, Rudge says that he won’t be getting carried away.

“The three points were up for grabs and we won so we’ve got to draw a line under that result and get ready to again on Monday,” said the Chippenham manager.

“We’re not going to get carried away with this – it’s just one result and we’ve got to prepare properly for the next game.

“It was like a basketball game at the end where they attacked and then we attacked and both sides looked like scoring every time.

“I think that their penalty was a bit harsh and we had exactly the same thing happen against Weymouth but the referee said it was ball-to-hand – I didn’t see the difference.

“I didn’t think it was a penalty but then some people might say that ours wasn’t a penalty. “But football evens itself out sometimes and at the end of the day, when you look in the paper, the scoreline will say 4-3 and that’s the bottom line for me.

“The way we go out, we’re going to attack sides and we know that we’re going to score goals.

“You could see how much some of the players want to be at this club and for the supporters, it’s the kind of passion that you want to see.”

Chippenham travel to local rivals Frome Town on Bank Holiday Monday and will be without midfielder Scott Lye, who is currently away on holiday.
