EVO-STIK LEAGUE SOUTHERN PREMIER DIVISION: Perrin's joy over derby bounceback
4:00pm Friday 31st August 2012 in Sport
FROME Town manager Darren Perrin was chuffed to see his side bounce back from their disappointing drubbing at the hands of St Albans City last Saturday by claiming the derby spoils against Chippenham Town on Bank Holiday Monday.
The Robins were thrashed 4-0 in Hertfordshire but recovered by running out 2-0 winners over West Country rivals Chippenham at Badgers Hill.
Perrin’s praised his players character but did admit that he was disappointed with the broken nose goalscorer Matt Smith suffered after he was clattered into by the Bluebirds’ Shaun Lamb in the second period.
“It was a great performance by the lads against a decent side, especially after Saturday’s debacle,” said the Frome boss.
“For however good we were on Monday, we were atrocious on Saturday, but fair play to the lads because they’ve stepped up to the plate and I’m delighted with the way they’ve responded - six points from the first four games is a good start.
“Saturday really was woeful and after 15 minutes, we were thinking ‘this could be a cricket score’ but my staff have done great to get the players back up for it on Monday and we didn’t feel sorry for ourselves.
“I think we got our tactics spot-on and we felt we could expose Chippenham with the extra man in midfield and our goalkeeper’s made a world class save at the end of the first half but he’s not been tested after that.
“We’re just a little bit unhappy with the injury to Matt Smith though and we think that the incident was a little bit naughty.”
