TROWBRIDGE & DISTRICT LEAGUE PREVIEW: Tough start to life in Division One for new boys Boomsbury
5:00pm Friday 31st August 2012 in Sport
THE opening day of the Trowbridge & District Football League has thrown up a number of mouthwatering clashes.
The pick of Saturday’s bunch is the game at Southwick Road where Ben Howe’s new boys Boomsbury host last term’s Division One winners Trowbridge Wanderers, who have seen manager Dan Mercer and a few of their championship-winning side depart for Bradford Town Reserves.
Another match that catches the eye is at Brown’s Park, Freshford, where Hughie Fulton’s villagers entertain Westbury United Reserves.
A new-look North Bradley side under the guidance of Paul Ranger travel to Castle Combe, who have also lost their management duo of Stewart McMillan and Jason Bull.
Only 10 sides will battle it out in Division Two.
Bratton finished the last campaign in fourth spot and are tipped to do well again, with their campaign beginning at Heytesbury.
Promoted Westbury Town should have few problems adapting to Division Two, although they start with a tricky game at relegated Steeple Ashton, who have reappointed former manager Neil Taylor.
All six of Division Three’s new sides are in action and four of them have been paired together, those being Lacock and Trowbridge Town Reserves, and Levi’s FC and Civil Service Larkhall.
Westwood News could be a dark horses with a new manager in Mark Hurkett, and they face Stiffs.
The final new team is Trowbridge Rangers, who host United FC.
