DIVISION THREE REPORT: Buscots win Nursteed Road derby day battle

DEPLETED Cavalier FC squad turned up to Nursteed Road for the opening league game of the season against local rivals FC Buscots, who themselves were missing last season's two top scorers through injury and suspension plus enforcer Nathan Moffatt.

Both sets of players struggled to get anything going in the first half with the ball being spent mainly in air, only one shot from the home side was anything to write home about from Craig Townsend which goalkeeper Ben Beavan collected comfortably.

In the 41st minute when Rob Drown’s dazzling run found him upended by Josh Hunter, Luke Enderby stepped up on his home debut to superbly dispatch the free kick from 25 yards.

A simple reprimand by Buscots manager at half time coupled with a change of formation and substitute in Jordan Dixon boosted the home side and they came out the blocks flying.

It was Dixon’s accurate reverse pass which gave Enderby the space to curl home his second three minutes into the second half.

Townsend then got into the assist act when his square ball allowed Enderby to take a touch before firing his hat-trick goal.

Dixon again was involved two minutes later when his quick thinking was rewarded after his throw was flicked on by Dan Kingsbury to the oncoming Rob Drown who fired home superbly on the half volley.

A loose defensive header from the Buscots gifted Andy Holman the chance to fire home on 70 minutes only for Buscots to go up the other end with a swift counter.

Enderby’s cross was pulled back to perfection by young gun Jack Bramwell to allow Drown to exquisitely fire home his second on his left foot and complete what was a good day in front of goal for the hosts.

Fortune Inn FC 18 Bremhill View Boys 4

LAST season’s golden boot and player of the season winner Richard Bolter picked up where he left off last season as he scored five goals in Fortune Inn’s demolition of Bremhill Hill Boys, who paid the price for not having a recognised goal keeper.

Along with Bolter’s five-timer their were hat-tricks for Matt Jenkins, Joe Hylands and Ryan Kubulius. Adam Shipman scored twice and along with an own goal and a single from Danny Johnstone made up Fortune’s 18.

John Fortey, Rory Worthington, Graham Doyle and Aaron Gardiner replied for Bremhill View.

North Star B 1 Corsham Park Rangers 5

NORH Star B who avoided relegation at the end of last season faced a tricky opener when they hosted Corsham Park Rangers and so it proved as for a third successive game Rangers put five past the Calne-based side as they strolled to a 5-1 win.

North Star thought they had taken the lead on four minutes when a ball out from defence was met by Adam Welch, whose shot beat the goalie low to his left, but he was adjudged to be offside and the goal was ruled out.

The match flowed from end to end with both sides having changes but it was Rangers who got the first goal, a through ball from Owen Bryan was met by Gary Lock whose cross found Matthew Spear to tap home at the back post on 15 minutes.

North Star got the equaliser they were after on 40 minutes, a ball back to the goalie was judged a back pass, and with Rangers packing the goal the free kick was taken by Pepe Petrov who smashed the ball along the ground and into the net to level things before the interval.

Rangers took control of the game and in the 46th minute a mistake in North Star defence was punished by Matthew Spear who robbed a defender and despite the keeper getting a hand to his shot it went in off the post.

Within a minute Rangers took a 3-1 lead, Gary Lock was brought down in the box and Spear stepped up to score from the spot to complete his hat trick.

On the hour mark, Bryan delivered the perfect cross for Joe Forester who slotted ball home from five yards for 4-1.

Rangers wrapped things up in the 86th minute when the caught North Star on the break, Bryan picking the ball up in his own half before unleashing a strike from 30 yards to seal what was a fine win for an impressive looking Rangers outfit.

Talbot FC 2 Christian Malford 1

CHRISTIAN Malford started their match with Talbot FC with 10 players due to a player being delayed and were soon put under pressure by the hosts.

As the game progressed Malford were managing to hold the Talbot attacks but could mount little themselves.

Talbot broke the deadlock in the 27th minute when James Yates cross from the right was fired home by Mark Sharratt to give Talbot a 1-0 lead.

Despite the man advantage Talbot were struggling to cap their dominance although Ben Munns in the Malford goal made a couple of fine saves to keep his side in the game.

Malford should have drawn level just before half time but Scott Evans placed shot whilst beating Talbot keeper Stephen Rich rolled a fraction wide of the post.

Talbot held on to lead 1-0 at the half.

Shortly after the restart Malford were up to 11 men and began to come more into the game, having a series of corners.

The play now became more end to end but it was however Talbot who increased their lead in the 70th minute following an attack that led to a corner on the right.

Malford failed to clear Jamie Van Crump’s corner and Mark Sharratt hit a low shot through a crowd of players for his and Talbot’s second goal.

Malford hit back in the 75th minute when Mark Golledge headed home a long ball to reduce the score to 2-1 in Talbot’s favour.

The last 10 minutes were dominated by Malford but the Talbot defence held firm as they took the points with a 2-1 win.
