BOWLS: Holt meet Moulton in final

HOLT and Spencer Moulton will contest the Wiltshire Men’s Four Rink League play-offs final this Sunday at Devizes (2.30pm), writes DAVE EATON.

The former booked their place in the final when they dethroned champions Westlecot, winners of the competition for nine of the past ten seasons, with a magnificent 90-47 victory at Devizes winning on all four rinks.

Spencer Moulton had an equally convincing 113-56 semi-final shots win over Highworth at Chippenham Town taking the honours on all four rinks for a maximum 14 points success.

Holt are enjoying a brilliant 2012 in men’s competitions reaching Worthing in the quarter-finals of the Club Two Fours competition for the first time and also won Area C of the Wilts Four Rink League beating Spencer Moulton twice.

They have never won the Four Rink League play-offs before and only reached the final in 1998 and 2010 but lost to Westlecot on both occasions 88-61 and 89-56 respectively. Could this though be Holt’s year and be third time lucky and finally break their duck.

Spencer Moulton on the other hand were inaugural winners of the Four Rink League in 1920 and won it three times in the first four years. They have since won it in 1937 and 1975 and in their last final appearance lost to Westlecot 75-67 in 2007.

Rink 1: Rodney Summers, John Robertson, Kevin Oliver & Don Gray beat Mel Biggs 20-15.

Rink 2: Matt Tucker, Robbie Jeffreys, Martin Oliver & Justin Davis beat Mike Jackson 20-10.

Rink 3: Matt Snook, Malcolm Barker, Graham Archard & Keith Bailey beat Graham Hatherall 26-11.

Rink 4: Wayne Simmonds, Adrian Bolwell, Wayne Snook & Ben Gadd beat Ian Jefferies 24-11.

Score: Holt beat Westlecot 90-47 and 14pts-0.

Spencer Moulton v Highworth

Rink 1: Gary Fippen, Tim Wilkins, Kevan Farrer & Graham Shadwell beat John White 45-9.

Rink 2: Peter Hooley, Den Jones, Tony Keating & Ian White beat Rob Etherington 27-12.

Rink 3: Fred Beckett. Eric Green. Ashley Keirl & Russell Francis beat Richard Young 21-19.

Rink 4: Keith Westlake, Roger Green, Ian Francis & Steve Wiltshire beat Robbie Allen 20-16.

Score: Spencer Moulton beat Highworth 113-56 and 14pts to 0.
