PREMIER DIVISION: Late goals see brilliant Biddy beat Westbury

THE match of the day in the Premier Division of the S.K. Fruits Chippenham Sunday League was expected to be the one at Meadow Lane between Westbury Rangers and Biddestone Social.

And it didn’t disappoint as Biddestone won an eight goal thriller 5-3.

Biddestone opened the scoring on 29 minutes, Jamie Moss flicking on a Dan Lardner cross to Danny Jones who headed home.

Jake Hiscocks doubled the visitors advantage when he fired in from 15 yards in the 37th minute.

Westbury fell further behind on 51 minutes, when Kris Beasley curled home a brilliant strike from 25 yards and at this stage Westbury looked to be well beaten.

But Shaun Gardiner’s side kept plugging away and pulled a goal back on 79 minutes via Wayne Wheeler. Two minutes later Westbury were back in the game when Beau Blakeman netted.

Biddestone who had been coasting were now down to 10 men through injury and were now under the cosh and a second from Blackman in the 83rd minute brought the scores level.

Westbury were still celebrating their equaliser when Biddestone went up the other end and won a corner, Dan Lardner sent the ball into the box and Jamie Moss headed in to regain the lead for the Biddy boys.

Now with the upper hand, Biddestone pushed forward looking to kill the game off and with three minutes left, Martin Johnson did just that when he drove home from 20 yards to give his team a 5-3 win in what was a great contest between the two old adversaries.    

Semington Rovers 0 AFC Melksham 8

SEMINGTON Rovers' local derby with fierce rivals AFC Melksham proved to be a one-sided affair as the visitors coasted to a convincing win against a Rovers side that despite having a full bench had to call on a few squad players to make up the numbers.

The first 20 minutes was hard fought but Melksham moved the ball round the Littlemarsh pitch with good defending and excellent keeping from Corey Williams keeping out the energetic visitors attack at bay.

Melksham themselves had three changes and had to call up some squad players with the excellent Chris Dore reverting to centre back to cover the absent Matt Cooper and Tom Baxley filling in at right back to cover the absent Ethan Cox.

Ollie Woodland partnered Tom Robinson up front and both strikers worked the veteran pairing of Allan Clarke and Kelvin Lockwood before Mike Hill stole in from the left and bundled a cross into the Semington net for 1-0. 

Ian Dowell soon added a second and Chris Dore stroked home a penalty to make 3-0 at the break.

The second half belonged to Brett Partner who in the space of 15 minutes scored four goals and destroyed the home defence with some lovely mazy runs to win the visitors' man of the match pint after a dazzling display. 

Melksham welcomed back Luke Ballinger, the team's top scorer in their Division Four promotion season.

True to form Ballinger scored with a lovely dinked penalty to open his account for Melksham and complete the scoring.

AFC Calne 1 FC Colerne 11

AFC CALNE suffered a 3-1 defeat away to FC Colerne on the opening day of the season and when the sides met at Avebury, Colerne completed a quick double against their hosts.

Having been let down prior to kick off by a few players, Calne played the whole game with just 10 players while Colerne who won 11-1 had a strong squad of 14 players to pick from.

Chris Dixon was playing up front after two games in goal with Brett Taylor making his debut between the sticks.

Within 10 minutes Colerne were two up thanks to a double from Dixon. 

On 17 minutes Calne playing positively pulled one back through Darren Holcombe.

It was only a brief respite for Calne as shortly after Colerne added a third Adam Osbourne being played in by Liam Fullam, the mastermind behind most things Colerne do, scored to make it 3-1.

Dixon in unstoppable form, added three more intervened by another from Osbourne. Scott Lees and Nick Chandler were linking well down the right being involved in assists of three of the last goals.

On the stroke of half time Dixon scored his sixth and Colerne’s eighth of the half after good work by Osbourne.

Being 8-1 up at half time Colerne rang the changes with Lee Day, Simon Williams and Ashley Pechey coming on.

Day and two from Williams completed the 11-1 score line for Colerne taking their unbeaten run to 19 games.

John Reid, left back for Colerne celebrated his birthday with a man of The match performance while Aaron Clegg got the vote as Calne’s star man.
