RUGBY: Oxford Harlequins 12 Chippenham 47

DESPITE the scoreline, Chippenham were made to fight all the way for their second win in three National Three South West games.

Fly-half Harry Taylor missed an early penalty and the visitors squandered a number of try scoring opportunities before the deadlock was broken by wing Christian Novik on 20 minutes.

The Chippenham pack’s increasing dominance paved the way for livewire Lewis Surry at scrum half to increase the lead, Taylor converting.

Just before half time though, Chippenham failed to clear their line and Oxford took advantage to score a converted try .

Oxford drew level on 50 minutes with an unconverted try but Chippenham regrouped and on 56 minutes centre Ryan Surry anticipated a looping pass to run from halfway, Taylor adding the extra.

This proved the turning point as Chippenham added four more tries, the first by wing Mike Baptiste making his league debut.

Chris Simmons broke from full-back down the wing to score on his first start and Lewis Surry again darted through the defence for his second.

Centre Rupert Crockett capped a fine performance with the final try, Taylor converting all four scores.
