EVO-STIK LEAGUE SOUTHERN PREMIER DIVISION: Frome Town 1 St Neots Town 2
10:30am Monday 8th October 2012 in Sport
FROME Town will feel hard done by in this encounter after several clear-cut chances went begging which should have seen them at least pick up a point.
The Robins had the best of the opening half of the game and should have taken a seventh-minute lead when Lewis Powell saw a shot pushed onto the bar by Michael Duggan.
The rebound fell to Matt Smith whose effort hit the post and the loose ball saw Dean Evans' shot pushed away by the busy Duggan and the rebound from the same player was hacked off the line.
Smith sent a long-range effort wide of the target and then Tom Evans fired a shot across goal but wide of the post.
St Neot's had to wait till the 17th minute for their first real chance as Declan Rogers was put through but Frome 'keeper Darren Chitty managed to race from his line to deny the winger just in time and then missed a golden chance to open the scoring as Rogers' free kick found the head of Gavin Hoyte and the powerful defenders header was straight at Chitty.
Powell saw a volley well saved by Duggan and Dean Evans and Wood both shot over the bar as the first half came to a close.
Smith should have given Frome the lead straight after the break but found the side netting and then hit an effort wide before St Neots broke the deadlock after 57 minutes as a free kick was floated to the back post and Ed Adjeyi headed home from close range.
It didn't take long for Frome to get back on level terms though as Powell turned well in the area and made no mistake from 10 yards.
The visitors re-took the lead after 72 minutes as Lewis Hilliard dispatched a stunning free kick into the bottom corner from 25 yards out.
Frome then had numerous chances to get back on level terms as Evans & Powell both failed to narrowly connect with a Mark Cooper left wing cross and Dave Gilroy's perfect cross found Claudio Herbert at the far post but he missed his chance and the loose ball fell to Dean Flockton whose volley was acrobatically headed off the line by Ollie Thorne.
St Neots could have added to their total in the closing stages with Frome pushing forward as Stefan Moore forced Chitty into a point blank save as did Ryan Sharman.
But Frome's valiant efforts went unrewarded with referee Adam Penwell bringing the game to an end.
