FOOTBALL: Poppies fears after clash called off

THE future of Chippenham Town's crisis-hit Evo-Stik League Southern Premier Division rivals Kettering Town took a new twist today when the Poppies' scheduled match against Leamington tonight was called off by league officials.

The Poppies could only field 10 players in Saturday's 7-0 Evostik Southern Premier defeat by Bashley and failed to muster a squad for tonight's fixture.

They must also pay £3,000 as part of a company voluntary agreement to avoid a winding-up petition and currently have no electricity at their Nene Park ground.

Saturday's visit of Bideford is also in doubt, with the club looking to hire a generator to power Nene Park, after electricity was turned off when the club could not afford to pay a deposit to the supplier.

Owner Imraan Ladak claims to have three prospective buyers interested in launching a takeover bid, while insisting the £3,000 required to meet the of company voluntary agreement conditions will be paid to avoid a winding-up petition.

The Poppies are currently bottom of the league following a 10-point deduction.
