HOCKEY: Powell strike earns visitors a draw

WEST Wilts Ladies’ unbeaten start to the new West Clubs League East Division season continued as they held Swanage & Wareham to a 1-1 draw on the south coast.

The visitors took the lead as Suzanne Powell fired home just before half time.

Swanage came out strongly in the second half and had a succession of chances and short corners.

It took a retaken penalty flick for the hosts to equalise and Wilts’ defence, led by player of the match Kirsty Kenyon, held firm.

West Wilts Ladies 2nd conceded six goals for the second game in succession as they were beaten 6-1 at Warminster Sports Centre by county rivals Marlborough in Wessex Division One.

Hetty Thompson scored for the third team as they were beaten 3-1 by Melksham 2nd in Wessex Division Two.

Lucy Stanley, Kat Luther and Mel Bessell were on target for Melksham.
