CHIPPENHAM SUNDAY LEAGUE DIVISION THREE: Galaxy defeat depleted Corsham Park

THE match that caught the eye in Division Three was the fixture between high flyers Corsham Park Rangers and PSC Galaxy.

Galaxy, who had dropped just one point in their previous 23 league matches, knew that a full-strength Corsham Park side would be a match for them.

But once they realised that Tim Spear’s side had turned up at Lavington missing six key players, including top scorer Owen Bryan, their tails were up and so it proved as Rangers, who finished the game with 10 players, suffered a 4-2 loss, their first defeat of the campaign.

Rob Mitchell scored for Galaxy in the first half and a second from Mitchell doubled their lead in the second half that saw Rangers lose Martin Gould with a dislocated shoulder.

With no substitutes available they had to solider on.

Darren Lewis and Steven House added three and four for Galaxy with Kane Kauppinen and Matthew Spear replying for Corsham, who will be looking forward to the return match when they will hope to avenge this defeat providing they have their full strength squad available.       

North Star B 1 Fortune Inn FC 10

FIVE goals in each half earned Fortune Inn a 10-1 victory at North Star B, for whom it was a sixth straight loss of the campaign and leaves them firmly rooted to the bottom of the table.

Goals from Joe Hylands, Adam Shipman, Matt Jenkins, Ryan Kubulius and Richie Bolter put Fortune 5-0 up in the first half.

Bolter added three more in the second period to complete a four timer and Kubulius added two more to complete a hat-trick. 

Rob Lymath scored North Star’s consolation in the final minute when he netted from the penalty spot.  

Pack Horse Rangers 6 Bremhill View Boys 1

BREMHILL View Boys' latest defeat at Pack Horse Rangers left Garry Marshall’s side still looking for their fist win of the season.

For Paul Kidley’s Pack Horse side their 6-1 win was their second in four games.

Ben Butterfield, Steve Jenkins and James Bracey gave Pack Horse a three goal lead at the interval.

Chris Eades who was later sent off after picking up a second caution replied for Bremhill early in the second half.

His effort proved to be just a consolation as Callum Upchurch and a Darren Legg double wrapped up maximum points for the hosts.

Pig & Whistle United A 2 Christian Malford 5

CHRISTIAN Maford got their first win of the season with a 5-2 away success over Pig & Whistle United A, inflicting a first league defeat on the hosts at their Awdry Avenue home.

Malford started brightly and after only five minutes, David Brown put in Kieran Shiels for him to give Malford a 1-0 lead.

After eight minutes Mark Kmiec’s shot hit the left post before Paul Knight coming in from the right slotted the rebound past the keeper to give Malford a 2-0 lead.

Malford had several chances to go further ahead but Steven Sims in the Pig & Whistle goal made some fine saves to deny them.

Pig & Whistle gradually came back into the game with Mark Bridger pulling the strings in midfield.

After 35 minutes Malford failed to clear a cross from the right and Sean Meer put in Nathan Mantle to reduce the score to 2-1. For Mantle, it was his first goal since September 2010.

Pig & Whistle nearly equalised minutes later but for a fine save to his left by Malford keeper Matthew Hutchings.

Malford gradually came back into the game and on the stroke of half time got a direct free kick 35 yards out.

Ben Head’s fierce miss-hit cross eluded everyone to soar straight into the net and give Malford a 3-1 lead at half time.

Malford were again dominant at the start of the second half with their lively left winger Kieran Shiels causing problems for the Pig & Whistle defence.

After another jinking run he crossed for David Brown who scored his first goal for Malford and extend their lead to 4-1 in the 47th minute.

On 51 minutes Brown played in Scott Evans who extended Malford’s lead to 5-1 despite protests from Pig & Whistle that he was offside.

Pig & Whistle did not give up and reduced the score to 5-2 when Pig & Whistle’s man of the match Mark Bridger marked his 400th appearance with a fierce shot from the left edge of the area.

Both sides brought on all their three substitutes in the second period but there was no further score.

Malford were having slightly the better of play although Pig & Whistle continued to cause problems on the break.

Referee Anthony Frith handled the game well.

Talbot FC 1 FC Buscots 2

FC BSUCOTS maintained their 100 per cent start to the season, but their 2-1 win at Talbot, which keeps the Devizes side top of the table, was without controversy.

Rob Drown’s goal for Buscots separated the teams at half time and a first of the season and for the club from Dan Kidd made it 2-0.

Talbot, who had rattled both the post and the bar, felt aggrieved as they had what they though was a perfectly good goal ruled out before Mark Sharratt set up a nervy finish for Buscots when he netted on 87 minutes. 

However it was not to be as Buscots saw out time to claim their fifth straight win of the campaign.
